چکیده

An experimental study of a 2 mm diameter indium based mercury film rotating disk electrode (IrMFE) is presented. Using anodic stripping voltammetry and test ions of cadmium, lead and zinc, the effects of Hg film thickness on peak potential, half-width and peak height are compared with the predictions given by the De Vries and Van Dalen theory. The response of the Ir-MFE was found to be theoretical for Hg film thicknesses less than 1 pm. Application of this classical theory to real Hg film electrodes, on any type of substrate, is found to be inappropriate when the Hg film thickness begms to exceed 1 pm. It is also shown that the stripping peak charactensttcs at a semi-spherical film electrode can be estimated by assuming that tt is composed of a large number of annular flat films. The individual responses of the flat films can be summed to give the overall semi-spherical response.

An Iridium-based Mercury-film Electrode Part I. Selec’iion of Substrate and Preparation

A mercury-film electrode with iridium as the substrate has been developed. Various metals were considered as potential electrode substrates, but only iridium was found to possess the desirable properties as a Hg-film substrate. After testing several pretreatment procedures the recommendation is to polish with 1 pm diamond, rinse with chromic acid and cathodize at -2.0 V vs. SCE. Different depos...

The effects of mercury film electrode morphology on square wave voltammetric peak current response as a function of frequency

The net peak-current response as a function of frequency, for both direct and stripping square-wave voltammetry at mercury film electrodes, can differ significantly from theory when either the surface morphology of the mercury film deviates from being a true flat film or the substrate interacts with the analyte in some manner. Mercury layers of various morphologies (film, patches or droplets) a...

Analytical Utility of the Iridium-Based Mercury Ultramicroelectrode with Square-Wave Anodic Stripping Voltammetry

The characterktics of the irldium-based hemkphwkai mercury uitramlcrodectrode (Ha-UME) in conjunction with squarewave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) have been Investigated. Udng Hg-UMEs of 5-10-pn~ radii, samples were analyzed without any added electrolyte, deoxygenatlon, or forced convectlon. The peak stripping currents displayed a linear rdation8hip with d.porltion times varying from 1 ...

Simultaneous Automatic Electrochemical Detection of Zinc, Cadmium, Copper and Lead Ions in Environmental Samples Using a Thin-Film Mercury Electrode and an Artificial Neural Network

In this study a device for automatic electrochemical analysis was designed. A three electrodes detection system was attached to a positioning device, which enabled us to move the electrode system from one well to another of a microtitre plate. Disposable carbon tip electrodes were used for Cd(II), Cu(II) and Pb(II) ion quantification, while Zn(II) did not give signal in this electrode configura...

Construction of a Carbon Paste Electrode Based on Novel Thiolated Ligand Capped Gold Nanoparticles for Determination of Trace Amounts of Mercury(II)

In the present study, a simple electrochemical sensor for trace determination of Hg(II) ions in aqueous solutions was introduced. The proposed sensor was designed by incorporation of the 4-methyl-piperidine-carbodithioate capped gold nanoparticles (GNPs) into the carbon paste electrode (CPE), which provides a remarkably improved sensitivity for stripping voltammetric determination of Hg(II). Di...
